Adopting pets is not only an exciting experience but also a life-changing journey because you are giving them a new home and a new chance in life where they are free, protected, and loved.
If you are thinking of taking the road to become a fur parent, consider checking out this list of animal shelters and organizations where you can adopt your very own fur baby.
1. Philippine Animal Welfare Society
Founded in 1954, The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a registered non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of all animals and advocates for their protection against animal cruelty through animal sheltering.
PAWS is truly a perfect choice to find a fur baby, as they gladly welcome loving pet owners to house their adoptable cats and dogs that are all spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
A few of the important things to remember when applying for adoption are the following: meet the shelter animals in person; visit your chosen pet to confirm your choice; and pay the adoption fee of PHP 500 for cats and PHP 1000 for dogs.
2. PAWSsion Project
With “Our Mission is to Rescue” as their leading purpose, PAWSsion Project is a Bacolod-based non-profit organization that is committed to rescuing, rehabbing, and rehoming stray cats and dogs. They also host projects that cater to animal needs, such as stray feeding and their spay and neuter events.
In January 2022, they implemented a PHP 1000 dog adoption fee but a free adoption program for their shelter cats. For the international adoption procedure, you must take note of the following: Fill out the adoption application form, undergo an adoption interview, and visit the shelter to bring home your new fur baby!
PAWSsion only hopes that you truly have a heart for their rescues and that you’ll be able to give them a second chance in life.
3. MBY Pet Rescue and Sanctuary
MBY Pet Rescue and Sanctuary was actually inspired by the story of Marita Baquiran Yasudo, who first adopted a stray cat in Japan.
Today, MBY in Morong, Rizal became a shelter for a number of dogs and cats that are waiting for their new owners who can give them a new home.
They also promote the animal-human bond through outreach, education, and therapeutic programming.
The shelter doesn’t require any adoption fees to be paid, but you have to go through a rigorous adoption process that involves screenings and house visits.
These are done to ensure your capability as a pet owner and guarantee that the animals are put in a pleasant, loving environment.
4. Lara’s Ark
Furents are sure to find their fur children at Lara’s Ark! When Taal Volcano erupted in early 2020, Susan Lara made her way to rescue the animals who were injured and affected by the eruption.
Motivated by this ambition, she started to launch her own animal shelter, Lara’s Ark, which is dedicated to finding homes for rescued dogs and cats. Their adoption process consists of filling out the provided application form, having an adoption interview, and getting confirmation if you are a good fit for their rescues. Note that they charge a fee of PHP 1000 per adoption.
The majority of their rescued dogs and cats are still recovering from trauma and are under rehabilitation; hence, they want to make sure that aspiring fur parents who apply for adoption are indeed deserving and responsible.
5. Strays Worth Saving
Strays Worth Saving is a non-profit organization that aims to rescue and help stray animals, especially those in extreme pain and in need of immediate vetting. Their shelter in Tanauan, Batangas, takes care of over 100 rescues who are waiting for their new FURents.
Adopters of this shelter are strictly screened to certify that they can really transform the lives of their rescues into good and comfortable ones. As an important reminder set up by their team regarding adoption, “Please consider welcoming a baby into your family.”
The shelter offers free adoption of their rescues, but keep in mind that you have to be very hands-on and responsible enough to pave a better life for your new fur baby.
If you’ve decided to pay a visit to these pet shelters and become parents to these furry friends, be reminded that taking care of them is a lifelong commitment that should be taken seriously.
Also, this could be a reminder to consider adopting these loving animals to prevent unethical practices of using pets for profitable agendas.
