Misamis Oriental native athlete Janry Ubas successfully claimed a spot at the 2023 Asian Indoor Athletics Championship after winning a bronze medal.
On February 12, the 29-year-old Filipino athlete scored 5,246 points in the seven-event athletics for a podium finish.
Along with the Filipino winner were Japanese athletes Yuma Maruyama and Keisuke Okuda, who took the first two spots during the said competition.
With his score, he was able to surpass the record of his fellow Filipino athlete, Jesson Cid, with 4,565 points when he participated in China in 2014.
This was also the first time that a Filipino athlete was able to bring home a medal during the Asian Indoor Championship.
With his recent win, members of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association extended their gratitude to the athlete and commended him for finishing the competition despite his recent injury.
This has shown the passion of the Ubas for finishing the competition, which later bore the fruits of his hard work as he successfully brought home a bronze medal for the country.
