Metro Channel puts the spotlight on movers and champions of the environment in a special documentary called “Inspiring People: Regenerating the Earth,” premiering on the cable channel on Sunday (May 29) at 8:30 pm.

The one-hour special will feature individuals who have made a great contribution to sustainability efforts in the country, including Federico “Piki” Lopez, chairman and CEO of First Philippine Holdings Corp. and a staunch environmentalist; Ann Dumaliang, managing trustee of Masungi Georeserve; Yeb Saño, Greenpeace Southeast Asia executive director and an environmental activist; and Angelique Songco, Protected Area Superintendent of the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park.

These inspiring people will share relevant insights, learnings, and challenges they have faced in their fight for nature.

“Environmental work is about playing the long game—sometimes a lonely one. It requires a level of commitment so high that it becomes a way of life,” said Piki.

“We stay because it’s noble, impactful, fulfilling work that will benefit many other people beyond just us and we do it because we’ve grown to love this place,” explained Ann.

For Yeb, he believes that prioritizing one’s well-being goes together with the human desire to preserve nature. “We cannot just change things overnight and change things and sacrifice human well-being and dignity at the altar of environmental preservations because those two things do not have to be mutually exclusive to each other,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Angelique shared what they look forward to in the future. She said, “We started out reaching . . . the most remote schools and inspiring future conservation leaders. Because you know that wherever they go, they will take it with them and we hope that we will multiply.”
