Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has bravely announced in a video message on Friday that she has begun on preventative chemotherapy after a recent cancer discovery.

This revelation follows the 42-year-old royal’s major abdominal surgery in January, initially undertaken for what was believed to be a non-cancerous condition. However, details of the cancer have not been disclosed. But subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer, prompting the beginning of chemotherapy in February.

The Princess, married to Prince William, heir to the British throne, expressed her shock at the diagnosis but reassured the public that she is coping well and steadily gaining strength.

“I am well and getting stronger every day,” she said in her video.

Together with Prince William, they have chosen to navigate this challenge privately, particularly for the sake of their young family with their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

This news comes on the heels of recent disclosures by King Charles, Kate’s father-in-law, regarding his own cancer treatment plans, leading to his temporary withdrawal from royal duties. Kensington Palace has chosen not to disclose further details about the type of cancer Kate is facing but confirmed that she is currently undergoing treatment and is on the path to recovery.

The Princess’s absence from public engagements since her surgery has led to widespread speculation. She stressed the importance of taking time to recuperate and of sensitively discussing her health situation with her children, who have recently commenced their school holidays.

Despite her situation, the princess still thinks of those who have been suffering from cancer, saying “For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
