Filipinos love Madame Web!
Madame Web, the first superhero movie with a female lead in Sonyâs Spider-Man Universe, is the #1 movie in the Philippines this week, scoring a record-breaking PHP 10,402,829 on its first day. With a Valentineâs Day debut in 326 screens nationwide, the film holds the biggest opening day gross so far for 2024.
âThere was an opportunity with this movie to reinvent a Marvel world where, first of all, itâs led by women, and itâs made by women,â says Dakota Johnson, who plays Cassandra Web / Madame Web in the film. âAnd because of that, the characters are real, and they are messy, and they are complicated, and they are extremely powerful.â

Comicbook.com raves that âMadame Web is a modern-day throwback to the superhero adaptations of yesteryearâ and praises Johnson for her âenigmatic performanceâ as the titular character.
Roger Ebertâs Christy Lemire describes Madame Web as âblissfully breezyâ and commends Johnson for bringing âa refreshing, grounded quality to her superhero vibe.â
Fox TV Houston gives kudos to the creative team behind the film, led by director SJ Clarkson, for creating âa visually stunning thrill rideâ and âa thriller that must be seen on the biggest screen possible!â

âThis is a fantasy noir about psychics and sisterhood,â says SlashFilm. âThe future is Spider-Female, and Madame Web knows it.â
Madame Web, also starring Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste OâConnor and Tahar Rahim, is now showing only in cinemas. It is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Connect with the hashtag #MadameWeb
