The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) said it continues to provide aid to at least 752 individuals who were affected by Super Typhoon Karding.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the DSWD-Cordillera said 14 evacuation centers — three in Abra; seven in Benguet, and four in Mountain Province — are currently providing shelter to 233 individuals.
The number of individuals in evacuation centers includes 99 in Abra, 91 in Benguet, and 43 in Mountain Province.
Another 519 individuals displaced in the three provinces are staying with their relatives or friends.
Some 3,596 family food packs and 4,569 non-food items were pre-positioned in Abra; 1,090 food packs and 795 non-food items in Mountain Province; while 15,103 food packs and 14,775 non-food items in Benguet with eight of the 14 municipalities having pre-positioned items.
“We are still on red alert and monitoring the situation on the ground so that we can assure that food will reach the families who need them,” DSWD-CAR regional director Leo Quintilla said in a message.
He added that the DSWD-CAR had also been pre-positioning food packs at different local government units, especially the hard-to-reach towns and far from the capital towns.
“We have entered into a memorandum of agreements with the local government units so that we can be assured that the pre-positioned DSWD supplies will be cared for and will be used appropriately,” he said.
DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo has earlier ordered the pre-positioning of DSWD supplies at the local government units to make sure there will be food for the people amid calamities and road closures due to landslides and rockslides. (PNA)
