At least 50 residents of the Surigao del Norte town of Bacuag benefited from the PHP750,000 livelihood aid facilitated by the Office of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13).
“Each of the beneficiaries received a PHP15,000 grant that will help them revive their livelihood to augment their income,” the Bacuag municipality said in a statement Friday.
The grant, distributed on Thursday, was carried out under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which intends to uplift the standard of living of Filipinos by providing them with training, equipment, and capital to start a business.
The municipality said the recipients lost their livelihood due to the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Surigao del Norte Gov. Lyndon Barbers, together with Bacuag Vice Mayor Sheila Mae Cebedo, and Michael Salarde of Go’s office, led the distribution of the financial grant at the Puyo function hall in Poblacion Bacuag.
In a video message, Go urged the beneficiaries to boost their businesses to help them recover from the effects of Covid-19. (PNA)
