Davao-based photojournalists showcased the political journey of former President Rodrigo Duterte through a photo exhibit at the Abreeza Ayala Mall here, which runs from August 1 to 31.
In an interview, Lean Daval Jr., one of the photojournalists involved in the project, said the “homecoming exhibit” seeks to showcase the various photos of President Duterte from his early political career until the presidency.
Daval said the exhibit, dubbed as “DIGONG- a photographic journey of the 16th President of the Philippines,” aims to promote awareness on Duterte’s political journey to the public.
“We are very fortunate that we were able to capture his photos, when he was then our mayor until he became the top leader of our country. Through this (exhibit), we can also share to them who Duterte really is—as a political leader,” he added.
Taking the photos of the former president, Daval said, has been easy, describing the President himself as “a superb character as a subject.”
“When he was the mayor, he allowed us to get pictures of him freely and was very accommodating,” he said, adding that his group is looking forward to conduct more exhibit showcasing the former President.
Among the photojournalists included in the exhibit are Bing Gonzales, Keith Bacongco, Arjoy Ceniza, Ace Morandante, and Rene Lumawag.
Meanwhile, Ruby Ochoa, Abreeza Ayala Mall marketing manager, said the exhibit was one of the organizers’ way of “warmly welcoming him back in his hometown.”
“During the Kadayawan Festival, many will visit here, and they will know him better through these photos,” Ochoa said.
“Some of the photos here have not been seen in public. It’s a way of getting to know our former President better,” she added. (PNA)
