The city government here will distribute free medicine packages to residents who have tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said on Tuesday the initiative is one of the city government’s measures in response to the rising cases of Covid-19 here.

He said the medicine package consists of Zithromax, Neozep, paracetamol, prednisone, and surgical masks.

“This aims for the fast recovery of patients infected with the virus,” Lazatin said in a social media post.

On Monday, the mayor also ordered the set-up of a 24-hour checkpoint at the Angeles City exit of North Luzon Expressway to ensure that the border control measures against the spread of Covid-19 are properly implemented.

Non-vaccinated individuals coming from outside the province of Pampanga may only be allowed entry into Angeles City after presenting a negative antigen or reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result administered and released in the last 48 hours.

Likewise, non-vaccinated individuals may only be allowed in alfresco or outdoor seating areas in restaurants and not inside malls and similar establishments.

Meanwhile, all fully vaccinated residents of the city 18 years old and above under the A1 to A5 categories on or before July 4, 2021, are encouraged to get their booster shots at the City College of Angeles and Angeles City National High School starting on January 6.

As of January 3, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city is 12,559, including the eight active cases. The total number of recoveries is 12,033 while the total number of deaths is 518. (PNA)
