The country’s total number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases dropped to 9,592 after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 390 new recoveries on Monday.

In its latest case bulletin, the DOH said the country’s recovered cases also reached 2,777,354 or 97.9 percent of the total case count of 2,837,730 since the start of the pandemic last year.

The DOH, meanwhile, tallied 263 new infections, including 177 cases tallied from Dec. 7 to Dec. 20.

“The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (44 or 25 percent), Region 4-A (32 or 18 percent) and Region 9 (23 or 13 percent),” the DOH said.

Among active cases, 3,569 are mild, 473 are asymptomatic, 378 are critical, 1,797 are severe, and 3,375 are moderate.

The death toll has reached 50,784 with 45 new deaths.

“Of the 45 deaths, nine occurred in December 2021 (20 percent), one in November 2021 (2 percent), 17 in October 2021 (38 percent), three in September 2021 (7 percent), four in August 2021 (9 percent), three in July 2021 (7 percent), one in June 2021 (2 percent), three in August 2020 (7 percent), one in July 2020 (2 percent), 1 in June 2020 (2 percent), 1 in May 2020 (2 percent), and one in March 2020 (2 percent) due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya,” the DOH said.

The COVIDKaya is a digital application used by health care workers to collect and share data about Covid-19 cases.

The DOH added that this issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date.

According to DOH data on Dec. 18, about 0.8 percent of 28,438 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

“About five duplicates were removed from the total case count as they are recoveries. Also, there were 105 cases that have tested negative and have been reclassified as recoveries after final validation,” the DOH said.

It added that 35 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Four laboratories were not operational on Dec. 18 and 13 laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted the 17 laboratories contribute, on average, 7.8 percent of samples tested, and 4.1 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 21 percent of 3,500 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 22 percent of 19,400 isolation beds, 11 percent of 12,300 ward beds, and 10 percent of 3,000 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 22 percent of 1,200 ICU beds, 19 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 16 percent of 3,700 ward beds, and 12 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
