With the country\u2019s military dictatorship waging a brutal war against its political opponents, prisoners Valent\u00edn (Luna) and Molina (Tonatiuh) find themselves thrown together in a cramped cell. Initially at odds, they begin to bond as Molina narrates the story of his favorite movie, \u201cKiss of the Spider Woman.\u201d A colorful fantasia of song and dance starring screen siren Ingrid Luna (Lopez), the film follows a woman attempting to outrun a mythical predator who kills with her kiss. Jointly visualizing the dazzling Technicolor adventure, the men escape the indignities of confinement, and their shared experience leads them toward hope, grace, and connection.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fgvVfkgDPBU?si=Y3TTe-UqD4kzCj47\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusicals have been having a resurgence since they were first declared dead in 1931,\u201d said Condon about the cultural resurgence movie musicals are enjoying of late. \u201cI think they\u2019ve been resuscitated more often than Dracula. One of the reasons the genre always bounces back is that, as with suspense and horror, musicals are enhanced by the communal experience. In recent years we\u2019ve been searching for reasons to go back to the theater, and musicals, when they work, give you that extra jolt of pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s vivid colors, larger-than-life musical numbers and suspenseful scenes from the political part of the story make \u201cKiss of the Spider Woman\u201d a cinematic experience best enjoyed on the big screen.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s easy to get caught in the web of \u2018Kiss of the Spider Woman,\u2019\u201d said Movieweb in its review. <\/p>\n<p>USA Today also gave the film a positive review, praising the talented cast: \u201cLopez struts and vamps like an A-list champ, Diego Luna oozes gravitas, but everybody \u2013 and hopefully some Oscar voters \u2013 will remember this \u2018Kiss\u2019 as a star-making turn for the fabulous Tonatiuh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Kiss of the Spider Woman\u2019 is astounding,\u201d The Film Maven lauded the new adaptation in her review. \u201cIf you aren&#8217;t a musical fan, will you be in hell? Probably.
